Temp Employment Hiring At All-Time High as Indicator of Full Job Market and Need for More Workers
While numbers and statistics can only mean so much to individuals who are not mathematicians or accountants, they ARE a valuable touchstone to work realities other than the one in which we find ourselves individually. In other words, stats help “lay people” outside of an industry to understand what is transpiring within an industry.
The latest news from employment mavens Staffing Industry Analysts continues to paint a very rosy picture regarding the temporary employment industry currently at-work in America – the men and women who fill-in, supplement, substitute, and serve as auxiliary workers for all manner of companies across the company. For companies, this means that more and more companies are relying on temporary employees for myriad reasons. For Flex-Team, this means our light industrial and office/admin employees, whom we “lease-out” to our clients as temporary workers and often as temp-to-hire employees, are more in demand.
According to a recent article for SIA, “Temporary help jobs rose by 13,400 in June from May and the temp penetration rate reached an all-time high for the third month in a row, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Today’s revised data also increased May’s previously reported gain of 12,900 US temp jobs to a gain of 16,800. In addition, the year-over-year growth rate in temp jobs was 4.74% in June, down from 4.94% in May but still the largest second-largest year-over-year growth rate since June 2015. The temp penetration rate — temp jobs as a percent of total employment — rose to a record-high 2.070% in June from 2.064% in May.”
